Green Lake Park is considered to be one of the most favorite and best parks of Seattle. This park is situated in the middle of an urban part of the city and is known as the greenest place here. The park is visited by hundreds of people daily who come here to enjoy the water and greenery. Green Lake Park is a natural preserve and home for a great number of birds and waterfowl.
It should be said that the park is also famous for its Green Lake. It is a glacier lake that was formed 50,000 years ago by the Vashon glacier. Green Lake has not always been clean and beautiful; it has suffered from pollution and stagnation. Even now milfoil and swimmers itch are found here. That’s why not everybody will agree to swim here, though there is a nice guarded beach here.
This park is a great place not only for relaxation, but also for active recreation. Visitors may play tennis, softball and baseball here as well as golf. There are fields for every kind of these sports.
The Green Lake Park can boast of a reconstructed 2.8-mile path that circles the lake and is considered to be a perfect place for jogging, biking and walking. There is also a non-paved but popular 3.2-mile path that goes along the edge of Green Lake Park.
The park is kid-friendly and has lots of opportunities for kids. One of the most popular spot among the kids in the park is the wading pool. It is located at the intersection of East Green Lake Drive North and Wallingford Ave N. Children adore this place and it becomes really crowded on a sunny day. The wading pool is opened from the end of June till September. Usually it works daily 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
